Adult pilot · All experience levels can register interest
ADULT CHESSBOXING
Think clearly after a hard round. Box with control before the clock starts again. H&G is measuring demand for an independent Chessboxing training pilot in Kidbrooke.
No date or price is confirmed. New to boxing? You can still register interest, start with non-contact training and build through Adult Recreational before any sparring.
Age
ADULTS 18+
The pilot is adult-only. There is no junior register-interest route at launch.
Chess
1000+ RAPID GUIDE
Roughly 1000+ or comparable strength is the working guide for the full timed format, not a gate to registering interest or foundation training.
Boxing
PATHWAY BY EXPERIENCE
Beginners use shadowboxing, pads, bags and Adult Recreational. Contact begins only after coach-assessed readiness and the normal clearance.
A route for every starting point
LEARN THE FORMAT WITHOUT SKIPPING THE BOXING PATHWAY
Chessboxing training combines two familiar disciplines. Beginners can practise chess, shadowboxing, pads, bags, footwork and the transition between rounds without being hit or asked to spar.
If you are new to boxing, H&G will steer you through Adult Recreational boxing while you build stance, defence, control and fitness. You can still train a non-contact Chessboxing progression and remain part of the pilot pathway.
The boundary begins when another person is punching back. Before controlled contact, coaches assess defence, composure, power control and matching. Participants must also satisfy the club's normal registration and medical requirements for sparring.
England Boxing's 2026 rulebook provides a useful UK comparator: within its system, sparring participants must be registered, medically cleared and Fit to Box, with an active, fully licensed Level 2 coach supervising. Those are contact safeguards, not reasons to reject a beginner from the interest list or non-contact training.
H&G house training format
SEVEN ALTERNATING ROUNDS
Published chessboxing formats vary between organisations. The sequence below is H&G's proposed weekly training format, not a claim about universal or championship rules.
The contact route uses controlled technical sparring in the boxing rounds. The development route keeps the same clocks and transitions but substitutes shadowboxing, pads, bags or coach-set conditioning until the boxer is ready for contact.

CHESS CLOCK
- • One continuing chess game across all four chess rounds.
- • Six minutes total clock time per player.
- • The board position is preserved during boxing rounds.
- • Checkmate, resignation or loss on time ends the chess exercise.
- • If the final chess round ends without a result, the training game is recorded as unfinished.
TRANSITIONS
- • One minute between every round.
- • Gloves are removed or fitted with coach/corner support.
- • No chess advice, engine assistance or moves by a helper.
- • The referee or coach controls when clocks and contact restart.
- • Equipment trouble never overrides a safety stoppage.
Timing summary: four 3-minute chess rounds, three 2-minute boxing rounds and six 1-minute transitions. That is 24 scheduled minutes if every round is used, before brief instructions or a stoppage.
Weekly class safety
CONTROL COMES BEFORE COMPETITION
Boxing rounds are controlled technical sparring. Knockout-seeking, uncontrolled power and attempts to “win” through injury are forbidden.
Any knockdown, count or stoppage ends contact immediately. The coach or referee can reduce contact, change a pairing or stop a round without debate.
The weekly class does not award an overall boxing win. The boxing is there to test composure, technique and decision-making under fatigue, not to create an unofficial bout.
Medical restrictions and post-stoppage suspensions always override the exercise. Nobody returns to contact because a chess game is unfinished.
Optional video review
WHAT AICO CAN AND CANNOT DO
Where a round is recorded clearly, H&G may use AICO after the session to organise footage and support technical review.
AICO output is non-binding replay or decision support. It may give coaches another view of work rate, clean actions or round patterns; it cannot determine whether contact is safe.
AICO is not the referee, a medical tool, a safety system or the sole judge of any participant or result. Live coach and referee authority always comes first.
Recording is optional and subject to suitable positioning, consent and privacy handling. A camera never creates permission to spar.
Independent pilot
TRAINING FORMAT, NOT A SANCTIONED EVENT
Chessboxing has been run under different formats internationally. The legacy World Chess Boxing Organisation rulebook and current French federation material are useful references, but neither makes every local session an official event. FIDE's Laws of Chess provide the underlying chess rules; boxing safety and eligibility still need their own framework.
H&G's proposal is explicitly an independent house training format. It is not affiliated with or sanctioned by WCBO, WCBA, Chess.com or another chessboxing promoter or governing body. The class page does not sell entry to a contest.
If demand supports a spectator or white-collar-style chessboxing event later, H&G would treat that as a separate launch. Sanctioning, insurance, participant medicals, matchmaking, venue permissions, safeguarding, officials and any required premises licensing would need to be settled before tickets or bouts were announced.

INTERESTED IN THE PILOT?
Send your age, chess background or rating, and boxing experience, even if that experience is zero. H&G will use the responses to design the right mix of foundation and contact training.
No schedule or price has been set. Registering interest does not book a class; coaches will place beginners in the development route and assess every participant before contact.
Register Interest on WhatsAppFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the H&G Chessboxing class running now?
Not yet. Honour and Glory is measuring interest in an adult pilot. No class date, timetable or price has been announced. Registering interest is not a booking and does not guarantee a place.
Can complete boxing beginners register interest?
Yes. Beginners can register interest and train the chess, boxing fundamentals and non-contact transitions. They start through Adult Recreational boxing and are not placed into contact. Controlled sparring only begins after coach-assessed readiness, appropriate matching and the normal registration and medical clearance.
How good at chess do I need to be?
A Chess.com Rapid rating of roughly 1000 or comparable strength is the working guide for the full timed format, not a bar to registering interest or joining foundation work. Chess.com calls this a rating, not an Elo. If your experience is over-the-board, on another platform or still developing, a short assessment can place you in the right route.
Can somebody win the weekly class by knockout?
No. Knockout-seeking and uncontrolled power are forbidden. Any knockdown, count or stoppage ends contact immediately. The weekly pilot has no overall boxing winner; boxing rounds are supervised technical work and the coach or referee can stop them at any time.
Does AICO decide who wins?
No. AICO may be used after a round as non-binding replay and decision support when usable footage exists. It is not a referee, medical or safety system, and it must never be the sole judge of a participant or result.
Is this an official WCBO, WCBA or Chess.com event?
No. This is an independent Honour and Glory pilot and house training format. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sanctioned by WCBO, WCBA, Chess.com or another chessboxing promoter or governing body.
Will H&G run a public chessboxing event?
Possibly, if the pilot shows enough suitable demand. A spectator or white-collar-style event would be a separate project requiring its own sanctioning, insurance, medical, safeguarding, venue and licensing work. Registering for the pilot is not entry into a future bout.
