Safeguarding & Child Welfare

Last updated: May 2026

Honour & Glory runs junior boxing for children aged 7 upwards. Every child who trains with us deserves a safe, well-supervised environment. This page sets out our safeguarding commitment, the name and contact details of our Club Welfare Officer, and what to do if you have a concern.

Our safeguarding commitment

Honour & Glory Boxing Club is affiliated with the Amateur Boxing Alliance (ABA) and runs its junior programme within the ABA's safeguarding framework. We take the welfare of every child who trains with us seriously, and we have a named Club Welfare Officer (below) whom parents, carers and members can contact about any concern.

If you would like to know more about our specific safeguarding arrangements — supervision, coach checks, or our policies — please contact the Welfare Officer, who will be happy to talk you through them.

Club Welfare Officer

Anton Pattenden — Club Welfare Officer

Anton is the designated Welfare Officer for Honour & Glory Boxing Club. Parents, carers, and members can contact him directly with any welfare concern about a child or young person training at the club.

Contact Anton:

If your concern involves the Head Coach and you would prefer to contact someone outside the club, please contact the ABA directly (see escalation routes below) or the NSPCC helpline.

How to raise a safeguarding concern

The right first step depends on the urgency of the situation.

If a child is in immediate danger

Call 999 immediately. Do not wait to contact the club or a governing body first.

For non-urgent concerns at Honour & Glory

Contact the Club Welfare Officer (Anton) as above. You do not need to have witnessed something directly — discomfort is enough of a reason to raise a concern. All concerns are treated confidentially.

If you prefer not to contact the club directly

You can report concerns about an ABA-affiliated club to the Amateur Boxing Alliance:

NSPCC helpline — available to anyone, any time

You can contact the NSPCC helpline about any concern involving a child in sport, at any club:

The helpline is confidential. Contacting it does not automatically trigger an investigation — it starts a conversation about what, if anything, should happen next.

Photography and media consent

We may photograph or film sessions for use on the club website and social media. For any child or young person under 18, we ask for parental consent before using their image. If you would prefer your child not to be photographed, let us know when you register — or at any time afterwards — and we will respect that. Contact info@honourandglory.co.uk to update your preference.

Complaints procedure

If you are not satisfied with how a concern or complaint has been handled at club level, or if you have a general complaint about the club, the following process applies:

  1. Contact the club directly. Email info@honourandglory.co.uk or speak to a coach. We aim to acknowledge and respond to complaints as promptly as we can.
  2. Escalate to the ABA. If you are not satisfied with the club's response, you can raise the matter with the Amateur Boxing Alliance. The ABA has an appeals and complaints process for affiliated clubs. Contact them via www.alliance-boxing.com.
  3. Statutory services. For any concern involving child welfare or safeguarding that has not been resolved, you may also contact your local authority children's social care, or the NSPCC helpline (0808 800 5000).

Complaints relating to data protection or how we handle personal information should be directed to us in the first instance. If you remain unsatisfied, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Coach checks and training

DBS checks and safeguarding training for coaches form part of the ABA coaching framework. If you would like information about a particular coach's DBS status or safeguarding training, please ask the Welfare Officer and we will be happy to provide it.

Questions?

If you have any question about our safeguarding arrangements — before or after enrolling your child — you are welcome to ask. Email info@honourandglory.co.uk, message us on WhatsApp, or speak to any coach at the gym. There is no wrong question.
