You do not need to be fit to start. You need to start to get fit.
Our adult recreational class is proper boxing training - not a boxercise-style session where you wave your arms around to music. You will learn real technique, hit pads with a partner, work the bags, skip rope, and get a workout that makes the gym feel pointless by comparison.
Most of our adults had never thrown a punch before they walked in. A few months later they are throwing combinations on the pads and wondering why they did not start years ago.

Come for one session first. You will learn the basics, hit pads and bags, and see whether the gym feels right before you commit to anything.
Try this class freeStart at the age you are
Adult boxing changes by life stage. The starting point is the same.
Most adults do not need a separate beginner class by age. They need sensible coaching, no pressure to spar, and a session that lets them build skill and fitness at the right pace.
20s and 30s
Use the decade well. Build habits, learn properly, and avoid the stop-start training pattern that wastes good recovery.
40s
A strong fit for stress relief, strength, confidence, and training that feels sharper than another gym routine.
50s and 60s
Recovery matters more, but technique, bag work, pads, and controlled conditioning can still work extremely well.
70s
The useful version is measured, technical, and honest about limits. The goal is capability, balance, and confidence.
WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE
WARM-UP & SKIPPING (15 mins)
Three rounds of skipping (do not worry if you cannot skip yet - you will learn), shadow boxing, and movement drills. Your heart rate will be up before you throw a single punch.
TECHNIQUE (20 mins)
The coach demonstrates a combination or defensive move. You practise it in pairs. Might be a basic jab-cross one week, might be slipping and countering the next. There is always something new to work on.
PAD WORK & BAGS (25 mins)
Rounds on the pads with a partner, rounds on the heavy bags. This is the meat of the session. Three-minute rounds, one minute rest. The coaches watch and correct your form throughout.
CONDITIONING & COOL-DOWN (15 mins)
Core work, press-ups, burpees - the stuff that makes you stronger. Then stretching. You will leave tired but feeling brilliant.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
BORED OF THE GYM
Treadmills and dumbbells getting old? Boxing is the workout you will actually look forward to. The hour flies by because you are learning something, not just counting reps.
COMPLETE BEGINNERS
Never boxed? That is most of the room. The coaches break everything down and you work at your own pace. Nobody is judging.
STRESS RELIEF
Long day at work? There is nothing quite like hitting pads for an hour to clear your head. You will leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
WANT TO LEARN A SKILL
This is not just a fitness class - you will genuinely learn to box. After a few months you will be throwing proper combinations and understanding the sport.
THINGS PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT
Will I get hit?
No. Recreational classes do not involve sparring. You will hit pads and bags, not each other. If you ever want to try sparring down the line, that is optional and only when you are ready.
I am not fit enough
Good - that is why you are here. Every single person started somewhere. The coaches scale the intensity. If you need to rest, rest. Nobody is watching or judging. Your fitness will catch up quickly.
What do I wear?
Comfortable sportswear and trainers. We have gloves and wraps you can borrow. Bring water and a towel.
Will I be the oldest/youngest/least fit person there?
We have members from their 20s to their 60s. Office workers, builders, teachers, nurses. The group is mixed and that is what makes it work.
"Best boxing gym in South East London. Proper coaching, no ego, everyone is welcome. I came for fitness but now I am competing."
