About these guides

These guides are written for people who are starting boxing or want to understand it better. They cover the technical basics - stance, guard, punching mechanics, footwork - through to equipment buying decisions, training structure, and nutrition.

The technique guides reflect how boxing is taught at Honour and Glory: specific, correctable, focused on fundamentals first. If something contradicts what your coach tells you in person, listen to your coach. A guide generalises. Your coach sees you move.

If there is a topic you want covered that is not here, message us. The list is updated as new articles are published.

Common questions about starting boxing

How long does it take to learn the basics?

Most people have a working jab, cross, and basic guard after 4-6 sessions. Hooks and uppercuts take longer to groove correctly. Movement and defence take longer still. The basics are learnable quickly. The depth is what keeps people training for years.

Do I need to read guides before starting?

No. A coach will teach you everything you need in the first session. The guides are useful for reinforcing what you learn in class, or for understanding the why behind what you are being taught. They are supplementary, not prerequisite.

Are these guides specific to Honour and Glory?

The technique guides reflect how we teach at H&G, but the fundamentals of boxing are universal. Equipment guides focus on UK-available products. The training and nutrition content applies to any recreational boxer, not just members of this club.

Reading is good. Training is better.
