Your first session should feel clear and welcoming. At H&G, beginners are coached properly from the start, with structure, friendly support and no pressure to know what you're doing already.
We built H&G specifically so that doesn't happen. Qualified coaches. Proper structure. A gym where showing up on your first day feels like joining something - not auditioning for it.
That's what the free trial is for. Come and see for yourself.

Excellent boxing class and great for all levels. Anton & James are really helpful & fun class instructors :)
Do I need any experience?
No. Most people start as complete beginners. The coaches will show you everything from how to stand to how to throw your first punch.
What do I wear?
Comfortable sportswear and trainers. We have gloves and wraps you can borrow. Bring water and a towel.
Do I need to be fit?
No. You'll get fit by training. The coaches scale the intensity to your level. If you need to rest, rest. Nobody judges.
Will I get hit or spar?
Not in your trial. You'll hit pads and bags, not people. Sparring is optional, controlled, and only when you're ready - usually months down the line.
How much does it cost after the trial?
Pay as you go, £8.50-£10 per session depending on the class. No contracts. Come when you can.

Boxing club comparison guides
If you are not ready to send the form yet, compare the criteria people usually mean when they search for the best, friendliest or most beginner-friendly boxing club.
How to judge coaching, safety, culture and progression before you choose a boxing gym.
For people who want a serious class without ego, pressure or a cold first-session experience.
The strongest route if you have never boxed before and want a clear first step.
Women-only and mixed-class routes, with practical questions to ask before you book.
Accessibility in the practical sense: price clarity, beginner support, local travel and class choice.
How to think about inclusion, respect and community without empty marketing claims.
Your first session can feel daunting. Here is everything you actually need to know, honestly.
You do not need to look, speak or act a certain way to belong here. If you are respectful, coachable and willing to work, you are welcome.
No. Your trial is pad work, bag work and technique. There is zero sparring for beginners. You will not be paired up with someone experienced and thrown in. That is not how we do things.
Not even slightly. Most people who walk through our door haven't trained in years, some never have. The coaches will meet you where you are. Go at your own pace, take breaks when you need to, and nobody will bat an eye.
Any comfortable sportswear and clean trainers. We provide gloves, wraps and all the equipment. Just bring a water bottle.
Come 10 minutes early so a coach can say hello, show you around and get you set up with gloves. No paperwork, no fuss.
Sessions run for about an hour. Your first trial is completely free, no card details, no sign-up fee. If you enjoy it and want to keep coming, we will chat about membership afterwards. No pressure either way.
"I nearly talked myself out of going three times. Walked in, everyone was friendly, and I have been back every week since. Wish I had started sooner."
Sarah, joined aged 34
"I was worried I would be the least fit person there. Turns out everyone is just focused on their own thing. The coaches made me feel welcome from minute one."
James, zero boxing experience
