Amateur boxing - key facts
Format
- 3 x 3-minute rounds (seniors)
- 3 x 2-minute rounds (juniors)
- Headguards mandatory for all competitors
- 10oz gloves (seniors), 12oz gloves (juniors)
- Scoring by five ringside judges
Rules
- Clean punches to the front of the head and body score
- Standing eight count applied after knockdowns
- Three knockdowns in a round ends the contest
- Referee can stop the contest at any time (RSC)
- Medical clearance required before first bout

Honour and Glory on the ABA circuit
Honour and Glory is affiliated with the Amateur Boxing Alliance. Our Junior Competitive and Adult Competitive squads compete at club shows and championships throughout the season.
In February 2026, our fighters travelled to Wodson Park in Ware for the Waltham Cross show. Club shows like these are the bread and butter of amateur boxing - they give developing fighters competitive experience in a controlled setting before stepping up to regional and national championships.
If you are interested in competing, speak to Head Coach Anton during any Competitive Boxing session. He will assess your readiness and guide you through the process of getting your competition card.
