Boxing Near Downham: Your 2026 Guide

Downham is a substantial residential area sitting between Catford and Bromley. Much of the housing was built in the 1920s and 1930s as planned London County Council estates, and the community that has developed since has a strong, grounded character. The Downham Health and Leisure Centre is a local resource, but when it comes to boxing, residents have historically had to travel.

Honour and Glory Boxing Club in Kidbrooke is the best option within a practical distance. It is 27 minutes by car and sits at 122 Broad Walk, SE3 8ND, with free parking on site.

About the Club

Honour and Glory was founded in 2020 and has grown to over 200 members from across south-east London. It is ABA affiliated and its coaches hold BBBofC licences. The club holds a 4.9-star Google rating from more than 40 reviews.

Boxing session at H&G Kidbrooke

This is not a fitness franchise with a boxing aesthetic. It is a proper boxing gym where you will learn the sport and get genuinely fit in the process.

Sessions and Pricing

Recreational adult boxing runs Monday to Friday, 7:30pm to 9pm. The cost is £10 per session. There is no contract, no joining fee, and no direct debit. You attend when you want to and pay only for the sessions you come to.

For younger members, there are two junior programmes. The Infants class covers ages 5 to 9. The Juniors class covers ages 10 to 16. Both start at 5pm on weekday evenings.

The women's boxing class runs on Saturday mornings, 10:30am to 12pm, at £10 per session.

Getting There from Downham

By car, the most practical route from Downham is to head north through Catford and then take the A21 and A2 corridor toward Kidbrooke. The drive is typically around 27 minutes in normal traffic.

By bus, the 181 connects Downham toward Lewisham, from where you have bus and rail options toward Kidbrooke and Blackheath. Several members from Downham and the surrounding streets make this journey regularly.

What the Training Involves

Sessions include technical boxing instruction, bag work, pad work, and conditioning. The coaches teach proper technique: stance, defence, movement, and punching with structure. This is not an aerobics class with gloves.

Beginners are welcome without any prior knowledge of the sport. The evening classes are mixed across experience levels and the coaching team manages that well. You will learn from session one, and the standard of instruction will remain consistent as you develop.

The Downham Connection

Downham residents tend to be practical people who want something genuine for their money. The £10 session rate, the no-contract structure, and the quality of coaching at Honour and Glory fit that expectation well. The drive to Kidbrooke is manageable, particularly for evening sessions when the traffic on the A21 corridor is predictable.

Members from Catford and the surrounding areas make up a significant part of the club. Downham is within the same catchment and the journey is comparable.

What to Bring

Hand wraps, gym clothes, and a water bottle. Gloves are available to borrow for your first session. Your coach will advise on what to buy once you decide to continue.
