What to expect from junior boxing at the Kidbrooke gym
Kidbrooke parents are choosing a room as much as an activity. The gym is on Broad Walk, so the first visit should answer the practical questions quickly: who is coaching, how the class is structured and whether your child settles into the instructions.
Junior Recreational starts from age 7 and is the normal first step. Parents can stay and watch, parking is on site, and the free trial is for the scheduled group class rather than private coaching.
Junior sessions are supervised, structured and run with safeguarding boundaries. Your child is coached through the basics rather than left to copy older boxers.
Sessions follow a clear structure: warm-up, technique work, pad rounds, and conditioning. Children start with Junior Recreational (7-16), with Junior Competitive (10-16) available for boxers on the competitive pathway.
Check the current prices page for group-class pricing. No joining fees, no monthly contracts and a free scheduled group-class trial before you decide. If your child needs private support before joining a group, use paid personal training.
Many members stay because the room feels structured, familiar and rooted in the local club rather than a one-off activity slot.
Junior boxing is more than hitting things. Children at Honour and Glory practise footwork, balance, timing and movement through drills, bags and pads.
The non-physical side matters too: listening to instructions, respecting training partners, controlling effort and staying calm in a busy room. Parents often tell us those habits show up outside the gym too.
For children who want to compete, there is a pathway through the Junior Competitive pathway. There is no pressure to fight. Many juniors train for routine, fitness, skill and because they enjoy the club.
Coordination, movement and basic boxing technique, adapted by age and experience.
More technical detail, pad work, combinations and fitness, still without pressure to compete.
Competition pathway for dedicated young boxers. Amateur Boxing Alliance registered.
Junior sessions are run inside a structured club setting with safeguarding boundaries, coach supervision and clear expectations for behaviour. Children are not left to train unsupervised.
Class sizes are kept controlled so children can be coached properly. Parents are welcome to watch from the viewing area, especially during the first few sessions.

Boxing for children should be structured and supervised. Children start with age-appropriate basics, protective equipment where needed, and are grouped by age, experience and readiness. Parents are welcome to watch sessions.
We take children from age 7. Junior Recreational covers ages 7-16, with coaching adapted by age and experience. Junior Competitive is available from age 10 for young boxers who want the competition pathway.
Check the current prices page for group-class pricing. There are no contracts, no joining fees, and no monthly commitments. Free trials apply to scheduled group classes.

About 15 minutes from Canary Wharf or the Isle of Dogs via the Blackwall Tunnel when traffic is light. Be honest with yourself about rush hour - the tunnel approach queues, so allow extra time for weekday evening classes. Free parking is available at the gym at 122 Broad Walk, SE3 8ND.
From the Isle of Dogs, cross to North Greenwich by Jubilee line or local buses, then take the 335 bus towards Kidbrooke Village and walk the final stretch to Broad Walk. Check live times before you set off.
Jubilee line one stop to North Greenwich then the 335 bus, or DLR to Lewisham followed by a Southeastern train to Kidbrooke via Blackheath. Allow around 35 min door to door either way. Kidbrooke station is an 8-minute walk from the gym.
