Abbey Wood has seen a surge of young families in recent years. The Elizabeth line brought new residents and the schools around the area are busier for it. Finding structured sport with proper coaching for children in the area can be difficult.

Honour and Glory Boxing Club offers two junior programmes for children from age 5 upwards. The coaches are DBS checked and trained in working with young people.

Two Age Groups

Infants (aged 5 to 9) sessions focus on coordination, movement, and basic boxing skills. The sessions are energetic and fun but structured. Children learn discipline through repetition, not lectures.

Juniors (aged 10 to 16) sessions develop technical skill alongside fitness. Older children who show interest in competition are guided towards it. Those who train for fitness and confidence stay on that path.

Both groups train from 5pm on weekdays. Sessions are separate so each age group gets coaching appropriate to their stage.

What Children Learn

Boxing teaches children more than punching. Footwork requires coordination. Guard requires concentration. Combination work develops memory and sequencing. The discipline required to train properly is the same discipline that transfers to school and other activities.

The coaches at Honour and Glory set clear expectations. Children are expected to listen, respect the space, and work hard. Parents consistently mention the change in focus and attitude at home after a few weeks.

Where the Gym Is

The club is at 122 Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, London SE3 8ND. Free parking is on site. From Abbey Wood the drive takes around 20 minutes. The Lesnes Abbey area, Thamesmead, and Plumstead are all within a similar travel time.

Cost and What to Bring

Sessions are £10 each. No contract, no joining fee. Children should wear comfortable sports kit. Hand wraps or light gloves become useful after the first few sessions once you know they want to continue.

The club is ABA affiliated and has been running since 2020. Over 200 members and a 4.9-star Google rating from more than 40 reviews.

Safety First

All coaches are DBS checked. The gym is well supervised. Sparring is only introduced for older juniors who are technically ready and have parental consent. No child is put into contact work before the coaches judge it appropriate.

The environment is safe, structured, and taken seriously. Parents are welcome to watch sessions.
