Boxing Classes for Beginners Near Abbey Wood
Boxing Classes for Beginners Near Abbey Wood
Most people who join Honour and Glory have never boxed before. They come in not knowing a jab from a cross, unsure whether boxing is even for them. The majority are still training six months later.
If you live near Abbey Wood station or the Lesnes Abbey area and you are thinking about starting boxing, here is what to expect.
You Do Not Need Experience
The beginner session is not separate from the main class. You train alongside everyone else, but the coaches bring you in gradually. You will not be thrown in without guidance.
The first session covers the fundamentals: stance, guard, movement, and basic punching. The coaches are BBBofC licensed and know how to introduce the sport properly. Nobody learns by being overwhelmed on day one.
What to Bring
Wear comfortable training kit. Boxing boots are not required at first. Hand wraps are a good idea and the coaching staff can advise you on what to get before you arrive.

Bring water. Arrive five minutes early so you are not rushing. That is about it for a first session.
Where the Gym Is
Honour and Glory Boxing Club is at 122 Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, London SE3 8ND. From Abbey Wood, the drive takes around 20 minutes. Free parking is on site.
The club is not far from Thamesmead and Plumstead, so if you know people from those areas, they may already be members.
The Schedule and Cost
Adult classes run Monday to Friday, 7:30pm to 9pm. The cost is £10 per session. There is no contract, no joining fee, and no direct debit. If something comes up and you miss a week, you have not paid for it.
The club is ABA affiliated and has been running since 2020. It has over 200 members and a 4.9-star Google rating from more than 40 reviews.
What Happens After the First Few Weeks
Progress in boxing is measurable. After a few sessions you will notice your coordination improving, your combinations linking together, and your fitness responding. It is demanding work but the feedback is clear.
Many beginners who started at Honour and Glory have gone on to compete at amateur level. That is an option, not a requirement. The club serves both paths equally well.
What the Club Looks Like
The facility has a full-size ring, heavy bags, and proper floor space. The atmosphere is serious but not unwelcoming. Beginners are not made to feel out of place.
The coaching quality is what keeps people coming back. You are not left to figure things out on the bag by yourself. The coaches watch, correct, and progress you.
