A practical parent guide for testing the Kidbrooke junior class from Abbey Wood.
Abbey Wood parents are not choosing a local SE2 venue. They are deciding whether the Kidbrooke junior class is structured enough, clear enough and right for their child. The free group-class trial should be used as a real check of the coaching room: instructions, supervision, age fit and how your child responds.
For most children, the starting point is Junior Recreational. The first session is about instructions, stance, guard, footwork, bags, pads and controlled effort. If your child later wants a more serious boxing pathway, that conversation happens over time with coaches and parents, not on the first trial.
Use the kids boxing classes hub for the current programme overview and the Junior Recreational class page for the active class route. If your child needs one-to-one support rather than a group class, use the paid Abbey Wood personal training route instead.
The best first step for most children. Coordination, listening, stance, footwork and pads without pressure to compete.

The useful test for Abbey Wood families is whether the Kidbrooke junior class is structured, supervised and right for your child after school or at the weekend. The trial gives you one simple answer: does your child listen, settle and understand what the coach is asking?
Parents can watch from the viewing area. Coaches keep the early work focused on basics and control. If your child is nervous, say that before the session. If they are older and already sporty, still start with the correct junior route so the coaching team can see how they move and listen.

We take children from age 7. Junior Recreational (7-16) is the usual starting point for beginners. Junior Competitive is available from age 10 for children who are ready for a more serious pathway.
Boxing should be introduced carefully and coached properly. Children start with age-appropriate basics, protective equipment where needed, and are grouped by age, experience and readiness.
We are 20 minutes from Abbey Wood by car. By public transport it takes around 40 minutes via Southeastern + bus 178/161. Free parking is available at our Kidbrooke gym, 122 Broad Walk, SE3 8ND.
Classes include warm-up exercises, footwork drills, technique instruction on the bags and pads, and structured games that develop boxing skills. Sessions are age-appropriate and designed to be engaging.
Boxing gives children structure, movement, listening practice and clear boundaries. At the Kidbrooke gym, Junior Recreational (ages 7 to 16) builds coordination, footwork, basic technique and controlled effort. From age 10, Junior Competitive adds a more serious amateur pathway with structured pad work, conditioning and bouts only when appropriate.
Junior sessions are supervised and structured for children and teenagers. We keep class sizes controlled so children can be coached properly. Parents are welcome to watch from the viewing area.
Children who train consistently often become more comfortable with routine, instruction and controlled effort. Some juniors later choose to compete, but the first job is safe, structured training that they can keep attending.
If you are still comparing options, start with our main kids boxing classes guide and the Junior Recreational class. For families in Abbey Wood, the key questions are how easy it is to get here and what your child should expect in the first session.
