Older junior route
For Hither Green families choosing a proper junior boxing route: start with the group class, keep competition coach-led, and use paid PT only when private support is the better fit.
Teen boxing near Hither Green is usually a parent-and-teenager decision, not just a class search. An older junior may want fitness, better boxing skills, a more serious training room, or a route towards amateur boxing. Parents usually need to know the class is structured, supervised and practical enough to attend after school.
Honour and Glory trains juniors at the Kidbrooke gym, 122 Broad Walk, SE3 8ND. From Hither Green, the route can work by train to Kidbrooke, bus links through Lee Green, or by car with venue parking. That local practicality matters because a teenager benefits most when the first class can become a steady training habit.
For most teenagers, the right first step is a scheduled Junior Recreational group-class trial. Coaches can then see how the young boxer listens, moves, takes correction and handles the room. Junior Competitive is available where suitable, but it should follow readiness and consistency rather than being treated as a first-session promise.
Parent checks
Use the first session to check age fit, class fit, travel fit and motivation. You do not need to decide on competition before your teenager has trained in the room.
The usual first route is Junior Recreational. It lets coaches assess movement, listening and attitude in a normal group setting.
No boxing background is needed for the recreational route. Previous sport helps, but coachability matters more than looking polished.
Competitive training needs control, attention, regular attendance and parent understanding. Aggression is not the starting point.
Hither Green families should check the train, bus or car route against the class they want. A reliable route makes the decision easier.
Class routes
Junior Recreational is the right first choice for most Hither Green teenagers. It gives them stance, guard, footwork, bag work, pad work, class discipline and coach feedback without asking them to choose competition before they understand the sport.
Some teenagers arrive already focused on amateur boxing. That is useful context, not a guarantee. Coaches need to see safe control, technical basics, consistency and how the young boxer responds to feedback before a competitive pathway makes sense.
Paid personal training can help when a teenager needs private coaching, a quieter introduction or extra technical support before joining a group. Keep the free trial form for scheduled group classes and use WhatsApp or the paid PT route if private coaching is the better question.
First session
The first session should feel organised and coach-led. Your teenager should know what they are being asked to practise, get corrections they can understand, and leave with a clear sense of whether the room suits them.
Bring comfortable sports clothing, trainers and water. If you do not already have wraps or gloves, ask before buying everything at once. The first visit is about class fit, coaching style and whether the route is practical from Hither Green.
If your teenager is nervous, say so when booking. If they are serious about amateur boxing, say that too, but keep the first session grounded: train once, listen carefully, then ask what the coach recommends next.
If you need more detail before booking, use these routes to separate parent reassurance, class prices, beginner support and paid private coaching.
