Boxing Classes for Beginners Near Erith

By Anton Pattenden 2 min read 21 min drive from Erith

The most common question from beginners is whether they need to get fit before they start boxing. The answer is no. You get fit by training. You do not train in order to get fit first. If you are in Erith and you have been thinking about trying boxing, the only thing stopping you is the decision to show up.

Honour and Glory Boxing Club is at 122 Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, SE3 8ND. From Erith, the drive takes around 21 minutes. Free parking is on site.

What Happens on the First Visit

The first session is a free trial. You will train with the regular session, not in a separate beginner group. The session covers warm-up, stance, movement, and the mechanics of basic punches. A BBBofC licensed coach will correct your positioning and give you specific technical instruction.

You will work on a heavy bag. You will not spar. You will not be put in any situation where your lack of experience is a disadvantage. The pace works for the group in the room, and beginners are part of that group from session one.

The Progression from Beginner

Boxing has a clear learning curve. In the first few sessions you learn the stance, the jab, and the basic footwork. Over the following weeks those foundations are built upon systematically. By month three, members who started with no background are throwing combinations and holding their own on the pads.

The progress is visible and measurable, which is part of why boxing retains people in a way that generic gym training often does not. There is always something specific to improve.

Women's sessions are available on Saturdays, 10am to 11am, at the same rate. If you are female and prefer a women-only environment for your first sessions, that is a good option to start with.

No Equipment Needed

For the first session, you need sports clothing, trainers, and a water bottle. Do not buy gloves or hand wraps before you have tried the class. Come and train. Decide whether you want to continue. Then invest in kit if you do.

The coaches at the club are happy to advise on equipment once you have decided boxing is for you. Buying the wrong size gloves before you have any frame of reference is a common and unnecessary mistake.

Erith is one of the closest Bexley towns to the club. The journey is short enough that regular attendance is practical, and regular attendance is what produces results in boxing.
