Boxing for Fitness Near Bermondsey

If you have spent time in commercial gyms near Bermondsey and feel like you are going through the motions, boxing is a different kind of training. It demands your full attention, works every part of your body, and gives you a genuine reason to push yourself through discomfort. No machine and no playlist produces that effect.

Honour and Glory Boxing Club in Kidbrooke is 24 minutes from Bermondsey by car. It is a proper boxing gym, not a fitness brand. The difference matters.

What Boxing Training Actually Does

A solid boxing session burns between 500 and 800 calories, depending on intensity and your own body weight. That puts it well above most standard gym workouts.

Boxing training for fitness and weight loss

More importantly, boxing develops multiple physical qualities at the same time. Cardiovascular endurance improves because the work rate is continuous and varied. Strength builds through pad work, bag work, and conditioning drills that use your whole body. Coordination, speed, and balance all improve with technical practice.

You also learn something useful. That is not nothing.

The Classes

Adult recreational boxing at Honour and Glory runs Monday to Friday, 7:30pm to 9pm. Each session costs £10. There is no contract, no joining fee, and no direct debit. You come when you can and pay for what you attend.

There is also a women's boxing class on Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 12pm. Same price, same structure.

The gym is at 122 Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, SE3 8ND. Free parking is available on site.

Boxing Versus the Gym

Most people who switch from a standard gym membership to boxing training notice the difference within a few weeks. The sessions are harder to coast through because a partner or a coach is involved in every drill. You cannot slow your effort on the pads without it being visible. That accountability is part of what makes boxing training effective.

Boxing PT session at Honour and Glory

Commercial gym memberships in Bermondsey typically cost between £40 and £80 per month. At £10 per session, Honour and Glory is cheaper if you train twice a week or fewer. There is no unused membership fee sitting on your bank statement.

Who Trains Here

Over 200 members train at Honour and Glory. The club holds a 4.9-star Google rating from more than 40 reviews. Members come from Bermondsey, Peckham, New Cross, and right across south-east London.

The evening classes are mixed, with people at all experience levels. You do not need to have boxed before. You do not need to be particularly fit when you start. Most people who join come specifically because they want to get fitter and the gym route has stopped working for them.

What to Expect

Your first session will cover the basics. Stance, guard, how to throw the fundamental punches correctly. The coaching team holds BBBofC licences and the club is ABA affiliated. The instruction is genuine, not generic.

Within a few sessions, you will be doing combination work, bag rounds, and pad work with a coach. The sessions are structured with a warm-up, technical work, bag or pad rounds, and conditioning at the end.

What to Bring

Gym clothes, a water bottle, and hand wraps if you have them. Gloves are available to borrow for your first visit. Once you know you are staying, your coach will advise on the kit worth buying.
