LONDON ABA

South East London's regional amateur boxing network

The London Amateur Boxing Association is the regional body that organises amateur boxing competition across the capital. Membership connects Honour and Glory to the broader London boxing circuit - the inter-club shows, regional championships, and competition pathway that feeds into national level.

What the London ABA does

London is divided into four geographical boxing divisions: North West, North East, South West, and South East. Honour and Glory sits in the South East division, covering the area from Greenwich and Kidbrooke out to Eltham, Woolwich, and beyond. The London ABA coordinates competition across all four divisions, from first-time inter-club shows matching novices against novices, through to regional championships that determine who represents London at national level.

For any boxer who wants to compete, membership through an affiliated club is the entry point. Without it, there is no regional competition pathway and no route to national championships. This is the infrastructure side of amateur boxing - not glamorous, but necessary.

What it means for our members

A structured route to competition

The competition structure runs from Schools and Minors categories for younger boxers through to Junior and Senior championships for adults. Each level has defined experience requirements - you will not be entered into a regional championship with two bouts under your belt if the rules require more. The structure is designed to bring boxers through at a pace that matches their development.

For members at Honour and Glory who want to compete, the London ABA affiliation is what makes that possible. We can enter boxers into inter-club shows against other South East London clubs, build up their bout record, and support them through to regional championships when they are ready.

Access to the wider London circuit

South East London has a strong boxing heritage. Clubs like Eltham and District BC, Fisher Downside ABC, and Deptford BC are all part of the same regional network. London ABA membership means Honour and Glory can arrange quality sparring sessions and cross-club work with gyms we know and whose standards we trust. That access is not available to clubs operating outside the affiliated network.

External accountability

Affiliation is not just about competition access. It is external scrutiny. The London ABA checks coaching qualifications, safeguarding standards, and medical protocols. For parents bringing junior members to train at Honour and Glory, that external oversight is an additional layer of assurance that the club meets a recognised standard - not just our own word for it.

Alongside our Amateur Boxing Alliance and BBBofC affiliations, the London ABA membership completes the picture. Whatever stage a member is at - first trial session, first club show, or regional championship - there is a recognised framework around them.
