Denzel Bentley vs Shane Mosley Jr: fight-week guide

A meaningful fight for Bentley
Bentley arrives with a 26-3-1 record, fighting in London and making his first appearance under the Zuffa Boxing banner. The signing is significant. Bentley has never lacked ambition, but he has sometimes lacked the consistent big-fight platform that turns domestic recognition into international relevance.
His April stoppage of Endry Saavedra brought further drama around the WBO middleweight title picture. Bentley’s team are seeking to have the WBO championship on the line for this contest, though the sanctioning situation remains unresolved. Sky Sports reported on the ongoing appeal, while Bentley has made clear in interviews that he intends to beat Mosley Jr regardless of the paperwork around the belt.
That is the correct attitude. A world title label matters, but the performance matters more here. Bentley cannot merely edge past a respected American visitor and expect the division to move for him. He needs to look authoritative.
The Harlesden fighter has experience of the top level. His loss to Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in 2022 was painful but valuable, exposing areas that need tightening against elite technicians while also showing that Bentley belongs in serious company. He responded well, rebuilding with purpose rather than drifting into low-risk fights.
The confirmation of Bentley’s Zuffa deal and Mosley Jr bout makes this a statement opportunity in front of a London crowd. A strong win gives Bentley a stronger claim for major middleweight nights in 2027.
Mosley Jr is more than a famous surname
Shane Mosley Jr carries one of boxing’s most recognisable surnames, but he is not entering the Copper Box Arena on family reputation alone.
The son of Hall of Famer Shane Mosley, he has built a respectable 27-5 record through a career that has included difficult assignments and gradual improvement. At 35, he is not a prospect being protected for the future. He is a seasoned professional who knows that a win in London can change his career.
Most importantly, Mosley Jr arrives after a genuinely eye-catching result. In May, he stopped Serhii Bohachuk in the sixth round, a result that immediately made people take his form more seriously. Bohachuk is a physically demanding, aggressive fighter, and stopping him says far more than a routine win over a fading opponent.
The Ring’s announcement of the November 7 fight rightly frames it as a consequential middleweight contest rather than a celebrity booking. Mosley Jr has momentum, belief and physical advantages that Bentley cannot ignore.
He is listed at 6ft 1in, compared with Bentley at 5ft 10in, and has a reported 77-inch reach to Bentley’s 72 inches. BoxingNews.com’s preview and odds guide has Bentley as the betting favourite, but the dimensions tell you why this is not a straightforward assignment.
Five inches of reach can become a very long night if the shorter fighter follows instead of cuts the ring down.

The tactical question: can Bentley get close without paying for it?
Both men are orthodox, which means there is no southpaw puzzle to solve. This is about distance, rhythm, pressure and authority.
Mosley Jr’s most obvious route is to establish a disciplined jab, keep his lead foot outside Bentley’s lead foot when possible, and make Bentley reset. He does not need to throw every punch with spite in the first few rounds. In fact, that would suit Bentley. Mosley Jr needs to make the ring feel wide, keep his back off the ropes and use the right hand when Bentley reaches.
Bentley’s route is more demanding but clearer. He must get his head off the centre line, attack the body early and take away Mosley Jr’s space. Standing just outside and trying to win a long-range jab contest would be a tactical mistake. Bentley is the stronger, more compact operator when he gets his feet set at close range. His work has to begin with intelligent pressure, not reckless pursuit.
The key punch may be Bentley’s left hook to the body. Tall fighters often look comfortable until an opponent makes them carry the weight of a close contest. If Bentley can land to the ribs and solar plexus early, Mosley Jr’s legs and jab may slow by the second half.
Bentley also needs to be careful with his entries. Mosley Jr will have chances for straight right hands when Bentley leans in or squares up. A good pressure fighter does not simply march forward. He uses feints, takes small steps, blocks the exit and gives his opponent fewer clean angles.
There is another question: who handles the pressure of expectation? Bentley is the home fighter, favourite and fighter with title ambitions. Mosley Jr is dangerous precisely because he is arriving with less to lose. That can make an away fighter relaxed and awkward.
Why this fight matters to young boxers
For boxers training at Honour & Glory, this is a useful fight to watch with a technical eye. A taller opponent with a longer reach does not automatically control a fight. Equally, being shorter does not give anybody permission to charge in without a plan.
Watch Bentley’s feet rather than only his punches. Does he take a step after Mosley Jr gives ground? Does he close exits near the ropes? Does he jab to the chest before throwing hooks? Those are the details that turn pressure into effective pressure.
Then watch Mosley Jr when Bentley gets inside. Does he tie up, pivot away, frame with the forearm or fire short uppercuts? Good boxing is often decided in the moments between obvious exchanges.
Young people aged 7+ learning at the club can develop those habits safely through structured drills, bag work, fitness and coached technical sessions. If you are based around Kidbrooke and want to start properly, book a trial at Honour & Glory Boxing Club.

Do not plan your evening around a precise Bentley versus Mosley Jr ringwalk. It is the co-main event, so the start depends on how long the undercard lasts. Check Sky Sports on fight day for the final programme details.
The pick
Bentley on points, but with no comfort attached.
Mosley Jr has the size, reach and recent form to make the opening rounds difficult. If he keeps the fight at the end of his jab, he can bank rounds and make Bentley impatient. But Bentley should have the stronger body attack, the greater urgency and the louder support in a London arena.
The decisive period should be rounds six to nine. If Bentley has made Mosley Jr work, landed downstairs and forced exchanges along the ropes, the home fighter should take over. If Mosley Jr is still gliding around the ring behind a busy jab, Bentley will have a genuine problem.
This is not a showcase fight for Bentley. It is a test of whether he can impose himself on a credible, physically awkward opponent when the stakes are rising. That is exactly why it is worth watching.
