Greenwich has more gym options than most people realise. From budget chains to boutique studios to community sports clubs, the range within 15 minutes covers almost every fitness need and budget. This is an honest breakdown.
We are a boxing gym in Kidbrooke - a 4-minute drive from Greenwich - so we are not neutral. But the other options here are real and some of them are genuinely excellent.
Budget Gyms (Under £30/month)
PureGym Greenwich (from £22.99/month)
PureGym Greenwich offers 24-hour access and close to 500 pieces of equipment. They run over 100 free classes per week included with membership. The membership gives access to both Greenwich locations.
Honest assessment: PureGym is very good value at this price point. The class offering is real, the equipment is well-maintained, and the 24/7 access suits people with unpredictable schedules. It is not a community gym - you are unlikely to know anyone - but as a facility for self-directed training, it works.
The Gym Group Greenwich (from £23.99/month)
24/7 access, solid equipment across the floor. Reviews highlight affordability and staff friendliness. Some complaints about hygiene in changing facilities.
Similar to PureGym in offer and positioning. Choose based on whichever site is closer to you.
Mid-Range Gyms (£35-£55/month)
Snap Fitness Greenwich (from £36.99/month on annual plan)
4.5 stars from over 240 Google reviews. 24/7 access, cardio and strength equipment, personal training available. Smaller than the big chains - more intimate feel.
The monthly rolling option (£43.99) is flexible but expensive for what you get. The annual rate is more reasonable.
Anytime Fitness, Greenwich Shopping Park (from £35.99/month)
Modern equipment across two floors. Well-reviewed for cleanliness and staff. Convenient if you are near the SE7 area (close to Charlton Athletic's ground). Some complaints about cancellation processes - worth reading the contract before committing.
Better: The Greenwich Centre (from £37/month)
A leisure centre, not just a gym. Two swimming pools, fitness classes, gym floor. For families or anyone who wants more than just gym access, the Better network is usually good value. The Greenwich Centre is the main site.
Boutique and Specialist Options
Novo Armory, Greenwich (SE10)
Novo Armory is small-group boxing-inspired fitness - max 6 people per session, 3:1 client-to-coach ratio. 4.9 stars from 120 reviews. Classes cover boxing fitness, HIIT, strength, and spin. Available through ClassPass or direct booking.
Good for people who want a boxing-flavoured workout without learning actual boxing technique. More expensive than budget gym options but the coaching attention is genuinely different.
CrossFit GMT, Greenwich (SE10)
CrossFit GMT is well-regarded for community and coaching quality. Classes include CrossFit, weightlifting, conditioning, yoga, and personal training. Pricing on request - expect £150-200/month for standard CrossFit pricing in London.
Strong community, includes beginners. If you want structured group training with a high skill ceiling, CrossFit is a legitimate choice.
META45 Studio, Greenwich (SE10)
META45 runs small-group interval training - Foundation at £99/month (1 session/week) to Performance at £199/month (unlimited). Intro offer of £20 for one class.
High-intensity, well-coached, expensive. For people who want boutique-level personal attention on a group exercise format.

What to Consider When Choosing
If cost is the main factor: PureGym or The Gym Group. Both are under £25/month with everything you need for self-directed training.
If you want community and structure: CrossFit GMT or Novo Armory. You will pay more but the difference in motivation and coaching is real.
If you want a skill alongside fitness: See the boxing option below. General gym training does not teach you anything. At the end of a year at PureGym, you will be fitter - but you will not have learned something. Boxing, CrossFit, martial arts - they give you a skill that compounds over time.
If you have a family: Better: The Greenwich Centre gives the most under one membership.
The Boxing Option
Honour & Glory is in Kidbrooke - 4 minutes from Greenwich by car, 25 minutes by bus (132), or two stops by train from Greenwich station on the Southeastern line.
Our recreational adults sessions run Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. £10 per session. No contract, no joining fee. First session is free.
The comparison to a standard gym: you will get a harder cardiovascular workout, you will learn something, and you will be in a room with people who are all focused on the same thing. The difference in atmosphere between a general gym floor and a coaching session is significant.
