Best Fitness Apps for Boxing

Best Fitness Apps for Boxing

Training at a boxing club gives you real coaching, proper feedback, and sparring partners - things no app can replace. But when you can't make it to the gym, or you want extra work between sessions, the right app keeps you sharp.

Here are the apps worth your time if you box or want to start.

Shadow Boxing App

Best overall. £9.99/month or £49.99/year

4.9 stars from 6,500+ App Store reviews tells you what you need to know. The app calls out combinations, guides you through drills, and includes full tutorial videos for beginners.

What works: structured training paths, decent range of workouts (bag work, shadowboxing, pad drills, footwork), and proper tutorial content. You can follow a programme or jump into single sessions.

What doesn't: monthly subscription adds up if you're using it long-term. At £120/year, you're approaching the cost of actual gym membership at many clubs.

Best for: home training when you can't get to the gym, or building cardio and technique between club sessions.

FightCamp

Premium option with hardware. App requires FightCamp equipment

FightCamp sells you a full setup - bag, gloves, punch trackers, mat - then gives you access to their workout library. The app tracks your punches and shows real-time stats.

Real fighters coach the sessions. The instruction is solid. The hardware tracks power and punch count, which some people find motivating.

The catch: you need to buy their equipment first (£1,000+), then pay £34/month for the app. It's basically a home gym system, not just an app.

Best for: people committed to training at home who want structured classes and don't mind the investment. Not ideal if you're already training at a club.

Heavy Bag Pro

Dedicated bag workout app. Free with ads, £7.99 for pro version

Does one thing well - calls out combinations for heavy bag sessions. The app acts like a coach, telling you what to throw while you work the bag.

Includes Muay Thai and kickboxing combinations alongside boxing. All workouts designed by professionals. The timer keeps you honest on rounds and rest.

Free version has ads between rounds (annoying when you're trying to train). Pro version removes them and unlocks more workouts.

Best for: anyone with a heavy bag at home who needs structure and variety in their sessions.

Boxing Timer Pro

Essential round timer. £3.99 one-time purchase

Simple tool, but you'll use it constantly. Customise rounds, rest periods, warning sounds. Works for boxing, circuits, HIIT, anything that needs interval timing.

Visual and audio cues keep you on track without needing to look at your phone mid-round. Stable, reliable, does exactly what it says.

Cheap enough that you buy it once and forget about it.

Best for: anyone training solo who needs a reliable round timer. Pairs well with any other training app or your own workout plan.

Boxtastic

Free bag training app. Optional in-app purchases

Another heavy bag workout app. Calls out combinations, includes music integration (Spotify and Apple Music), and has built-in timers.

Free to use with ads. Some workouts locked behind in-app purchases, but the free content is enough to get started.

Interface is straightforward. Won't win design awards but gets the job done.

Best for: beginners who want to try bag training without spending money upfront.

What Apps Can't Do

No app teaches you to slip a punch or tells you when your guard drops. They can't spot bad habits forming or push you when you're slacking. They won't make you spar or get you fit for actual bouts.

Apps work for solo fitness training, drilling combinations, and staying active between club sessions. They don't replace proper coaching.
