PARENTS' GUIDE TO KIDS BOXING NEAR BRIXTON

A parent-first route for Brixton families checking the Kidbrooke junior class

For Brixton parents, the decision is practical before it is sporting. You are checking whether the junior class feels organised, whether your child understands the coach's instructions and whether the Kidbrooke gym is realistic for your family.

Junior Recreational is the normal first group route from age 7. Parents can stay and watch, parking is on site, and the free trial is for a scheduled junior group class rather than private coaching.

If your child needs one-to-one help, individual correction or a slower start, message about paid personal training before booking. If they are ready for a group room, book the junior trial and use the first visit to check structure, supervision, travel and class fit.

WHAT BRIXTON PARENTS SHOULD CHECK

COACHED JUNIOR SESSIONS

Junior sessions are supervised, structured and run with safeguarding boundaries. Your child is coached through the basics rather than left to copy older boxers.

STRUCTURED CLASSES

Sessions follow a clear structure: warm-up, technique work, pad rounds, and conditioning. Children start with Junior Recreational (7-16), with Junior Competitive (10-16) available for boxers on the competitive pathway.

NO CONTRACTS

Check the current prices page for group-class pricing. No joining fees, no monthly contracts and a free scheduled group-class trial before you decide. If your child needs private support before joining a group, use paid personal training.

COMMUNITY VALUES

The key test is whether the junior setup, class structure and travel feel right after the first visit.

WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN

Junior boxing is more than hitting things. Children at Honour and Glory practise footwork, balance, timing and movement through drills, bags and pads.

The non-physical side matters too: listening to instructions, respecting training partners, controlling effort and staying calm in a busy room. Parents often tell us those habits show up outside the gym too.

For children who want to compete, there is a pathway through the Junior Competitive pathway. There is no pressure to fight. Many juniors train for routine, fitness, skill and because they enjoy the club.

For Brixton families, the first junior trial should answer two questions: does the coaching feel structured, and is the Kidbrooke trip workable enough for your family?

What the first junior trial should answer

Check the room, not just the distance

The club is in Kidbrooke, not Brixton. Use the first visit to watch how instructions are given, how children are grouped and whether your child settles into the class without needing private coaching first.

Make the route practical

A Brixton family should check parking, pick-up, the drive across south east London and the public-transport route before committing. If the drive or rail route is too much, it is better to learn that from one trial than after joining.

Keep group class and PT separate

The free trial is for Junior Recreational. Paid personal training is a different route for children who need one-to-one correction, a slower start or parent-led advice before joining a junior group.

Ask the right first questions

Ask which junior route fits your child's age and experience, what they should bring, where parents can watch, and how to move from a first trial into regular Junior Recreational training if the class is right.

SAFEGUARDING

Junior sessions are run inside a structured club setting with safeguarding boundaries, coach supervision and clear expectations for behaviour. Children are not left to train unsupervised.

Class sizes are kept controlled so children can be coached properly. Parents are welcome to watch from the viewing area, especially during the first few sessions.
