Boxing Classes for Beginners Near Hither Green
People in Hither Green who decide to try boxing usually do so after considering the options locally and finding them insufficient. The area has good transport, good parks, and a community that is active by SE London standards. What it does not have is a properly equipped boxing club.
Honour and Glory in Kidbrooke is 18 minutes away. It has the coaching, the equipment, and the structure to take a complete beginner through the early stages of boxing training and out the other side as a capable, confident boxer.
What Beginners Work On in the First Month
Stance is the starting point in every beginners programme. In boxing, your stance is not just how you stand before something happens. It is your mechanical platform for everything: movement, attack, and defence. A good stance creates options. A poor stance limits them. Getting it right requires attention and repetition over several sessions.
The basic punches follow: jab, cross, hook, uppercut. Each is introduced as an individual technique before being combined. The jab is fastest and longest and sets up the other punches. The cross generates the most power. The hook changes the angle. The uppercut comes into range in close quarters.
Footwork is taught alongside punching from the beginning. Moving in and out, circling, cutting angles. Most beginners find footwork the hardest thing to maintain, because it requires conscious attention at the same time as the punching. It becomes automatic between weeks six and ten for most people.
Defence is introduced from the first session in its basic form: the guard position, covering up under pressure, stepping away from the line of attack. More complex defensive work, including slipping and rolling punches, comes later.
Realistic Expectations for a New Starter
You will feel slightly overwhelmed in the first two sessions. There is a lot to absorb and the body is being asked to do things it has not done before. This is normal and it passes.

By week three, the foundations start to feel more natural. By week six, combinations have their own beginning of a rhythm. By the end of the first three months, most people who have attended consistently are recognisably boxing.
The physical adaptation is also significant in the early weeks. Shoulders, core, and cardiovascular capacity all develop noticeably in the first six to eight weeks. Training two sessions per week is enough to see clear progression.
