Boxing Near Eltham Station (2026 Guide)
Eltham has a strong sporting tradition. The area has produced footballers, athletes, and more than a few boxers over the years. If you are near Eltham station and looking for boxing training, the good news is that there are options within a short drive. The less good news is that not all of them will teach you to box properly.
Here is what to look for and where to find it.
The Eltham Area
Eltham sits in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, well served by the Southeastern line and a good bus network. The high street has the usual mix, but specialist fitness facilities are limited. There are some gyms that offer boxing-themed classes, but these tend to be circuit-based sessions that use boxing movements for cardio rather than teaching the sport.
For actual boxing coaching with qualified instructors, a clear progression system, and a proper training environment, the best option from Eltham station is a short trip south to Kidbrooke.
Getting to Honour and Glory From Eltham Station

Honour and Glory Boxing Club is about 12 minutes from Eltham by car. Head south through Kidbrooke towards 122 Broad Walk, SE3 8ND. Free parking at the gym.
By bus, the 178 or 286 from Eltham goes towards Kidbrooke. Around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.
By train, Eltham to Kidbrooke is two stops on the Southeastern line. Five minutes on the train, then an 8-minute walk from the station. You can be in the gym in under 20 minutes from Eltham station platform.
For the 7:30pm weekday adult sessions, leaving Eltham station at 7pm gives you plenty of time.
What We Do
Honour and Glory is an ABA-affiliated boxing club with BBBofC licensed coaches. We have been running since 2020 and now train over 200 active members across every age group and ability level.
The sessions are structured and coached, not supervised. There is a difference. A supervised session is someone watching you hit a bag. A coached session is someone teaching you why your jab keeps dropping, why your feet are in the wrong position, and how to fix it. Every session at Honour and Glory is the latter.
Head coach Anton Pattenden sets the tone. Focused training, clear objectives, and individual attention regardless of whether you are on your first week or your third year.
Classes and Pricing
Here is what is available:
- Adult Recreational: Mon-Fri 7:30pm-9pm. £10/session. Learn to box without competing. Technique, pads, bags, conditioning.
- Amateur Boxing: Mon-Fri. £5/session. For those who want to compete or train at competition intensity.
- Women's Boxing: Dedicated women-only sessions.
- Kids: Infants (7-9) and Juniors (10-16) from £8.50/session.
- Open Sessions: Sat-Sun 8:30am-2:30pm. Drop in and train.
No contracts. No joining fee. No monthly subscription. Pay when you come.
That last point matters. A lot of gyms in the area lock you into monthly payments with minimum terms. We do not. If you want to train once a week, you pay for one session. If you want to train every day, you can do that too. You are in control of your spending.
Why Boxing Instead of the Gym
If you are currently paying £30-60 a month for a gym membership you use twice a week, consider what you are actually getting from it. Most people wander in, do the same routine, wander out, and feel vaguely like they should have tried harder.
Boxing does not allow that. The coach sets the pace. The session has structure. You work with a partner. There is technique to learn, which means your brain is engaged as well as your body. An hour and a half disappears fast because you are concentrating, not just enduring.
The fitness benefits are substantial. Boxing training burns 600-800 calories per session, builds functional strength, and improves coordination and reflexes. But the real difference is that you are learning a skill. After six months of gym work, you can lift slightly more weight. After six months of boxing, you can box.
Eltham Families
For parents near Eltham station, the kids programme is worth looking at. The infants sessions (ages 7-9) run Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm. Recreational juniors (ages 10-16) run most weekday afternoons.
These are not childminding with punchbags. The sessions teach coordination, discipline, and basic boxing skills through structured exercises adapted for young people. Several of our juniors have progressed to compete at regional level.
The drive from Eltham makes the after-school timing practical. Leave by 4:30pm and you are there comfortably for a 5pm start.
Come and Try It
The only way to know if boxing is for you is to try it. We offer a free trial session with no obligation. No need to buy equipment, no need to be fit, no need to have any experience. Just turn up in sportswear and trainers.
