VOLUNTEER ROUTE INTO COACHING
ASSISTANT BOXING COACH TRAINING PROGRAMME
Volunteer for 100 classes, learn the job properly, and if you are the right fit we will pay for your Level 1 course.
THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT PATH, NOT A SHORTCUT
We want more strong coaches in the gym, but we are not interested in rushing people through because they fancy the title. If you want to coach at Honour and Glory, we need to know you can box to a decent level, carry yourself properly, and show up consistently.
That is why the route starts with volunteering. You work alongside experienced coaches, learn how sessions really run, and prove you can help members without getting carried away. After 100 classes, if you have earned it, we will pay for your Level 1 course.
If you are brand new to boxing, this is not the right first step. Start by training first. Our adult recreational boxing classes and free trial session are the better place to begin.
HOW THE PROGRAMME WORKS
1. Start with an assessment
We need to see what you already know. That means stance, footwork, basic punch mechanics, how you carry yourself in a gym, and whether you can take instruction. This is not a paper exercise.
2. Volunteer for 100 classes
You shadow the coaches, help set up, hold pads when appropriate, support drills, watch how sessions are managed, and learn how to work with different ages and ability levels. You earn trust by showing up and being useful.
3. Learn the coaching side properly
Over those 100 classes we teach you how to explain drills, keep standards high, manage a group, correct safely, and understand when to step in and when to leave it to the lead coach. Safeguarding and reliability matter as much as boxing knowledge.
4. We pay for your Level 1 course
If you complete the programme well and we believe you are ready, the club pays for your Level 1 coaching course. The point is not to hand out certificates. The point is to develop coaches we would genuinely trust on the floor.

Adults who already understand boxing basics and want a proper route into coaching
People who care about community boxing and can commit consistently
WHO IT DOES NOT SUIT
People with no boxing background at all
Anyone looking for a quick certificate without doing the hours
Anyone who cannot commit consistently or take feedback
WHAT THE 100 CLASSES ARE FOR
We are looking for more than enthusiasm. Over 100 classes we see whether you can be calm under pressure, whether you can keep standards high without acting like a drill sergeant, and whether members actually respond well to you.
You will learn the bits people do not see from the outside: setting the tone early, organising groups quickly, correcting safely, helping younger boxers without overloading them, and backing up the lead coach rather than freelancing.
By the end, both sides should know the truth. You should know whether coaching genuinely suits you. We should know whether we trust you with the floor.
FAQ
Do I need boxing experience to join?
Yes. This programme is not for complete beginners. You need some real boxing experience already, and we assess that before offering you a place.
Why 100 classes?
Because coaching is learned by repetition, observation, and responsibility. A few sessions tell us very little. One hundred classes shows whether you are dependable and whether you can actually coach, not just talk about coaching.
When do you pay for the Level 1 course?
After the 100-class programme, if your attitude, reliability, and coaching standard are good enough. Completing the hours alone is not the full test.
Will I be working with juniors?
Potentially, yes. That is why the programme includes supervision, clear boundaries, and a DBS check before regular coaching around young members.
THINK YOU ARE A FIT?
Send us a message with your boxing background, how long you have trained, and why you want to coach. If it looks right, we will arrange an assessment.
