Best beginner boxing boots UK shortlist

This is the current beginner shortlist from the main boxing boots guide. Use it when you are ready to compare models. If you still need the plain first-pair answer, read the beginner guide first.

The coach answer

For most adult beginners, start with a mid-height or high-top boot with a flat, thin sole. The Adidas Box Hog 4 is the go-to first-pair answer. Spend 60 to 120 and keep the rest of your budget for training and gloves.

What to avoid

Running shoes with thick cushioned heels. Outdoor trainers with gritty soles. Premium competition boots before you have the training to justify them. Fashion trainers sold as boxing shoes.

Beginner boxing boots FAQ

What boxing boots should a beginner buy?

For most adult beginners, the Adidas Box Hog 4 (70 to 90) is the sensible starting point. Mid-height, breathable and widely available. If budget is tighter, the Everlast Elite High Top (50 to 65) is a reasonable alternative. Avoid starting with premium competition boots.

Should beginners buy high-top or low-top boxing boots?

High-top or mid-height for beginners. The extra collar height gives a clearer sense of ankle position and feels more secure during lateral movement. Low-top boots suit experienced boxers who already have strong foot control.

Do I need boxing boots before my first class?

No. Clean flat trainers - court shoes, futsal shoes or flat gym trainers - are fine for a trial session. Buy boxing boots after a few sessions once you know you are staying. At Honour and Glory, coaches will tell you when your footwear is holding you back.
