ELITE JUNIORS

Mon/Wed/Fri 6:00-7:30pm

£5/session

The Junior Competitive class is for young boxers aged 10 to 16 who are ready to train at competition level. Members train a minimum of three times per week and are expected to compete. Those who stop competing are moved to the recreational class. This is not a recreational fitness class. Sessions are structured around the demands of amateur boxing - technical development, sparring, pad work, conditioning, and fight preparation.

Honour and Glory is affiliated with the Amateur Boxing Alliance (England) and all our coaches hold British Boxing Board of Control licences. Junior boxers who want to compete will be registered with the ABA and enter sanctioned bouts when their coach judges them ready.

Competition is not compulsory. Some young boxers train in this group purely for the higher intensity and technical focus without ever entering a bout. That is a perfectly legitimate choice.

WHAT TRAINING INVOLVES

1

TECHNICAL WORK

Each session includes focused technical drilling. Combinations, footwork patterns, defensive movement. Coaches give individual attention to correct errors early before they become habits.

2

PAD WORK

Rounds on the pads with your coach, working the combinations learned in technical sessions at full pace. This is where timing, accuracy and punch power are developed.

3

CONTROLLED SPARRING

Introduced gradually and only when a boxer is technically ready. All sparring is supervised, and the intensity is managed by the coach. Full protective equipment is mandatory.

4

CONDITIONING

Boxing-specific fitness - rounds on the bags, skipping, core work, circuit training. The conditioning is hard but targeted. You are building the engine to last 3 rounds at full effort, not just general fitness.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What age can my child start Junior Competitive boxing?

Junior Competitive at Honour and Glory is open to boxers aged 10 to 16. Before joining, children should have a foundation in basic technique, which they can develop through our Junior Recreational class.

Does my child have to compete?

No. Many Junior Competitive members train primarily for fitness, skill development, and the discipline of the sport. Competition is an option, not a requirement. Your coach will discuss readiness for bouts with you when the time comes, and nothing happens without your agreement.

Is sparring involved? Is it safe?

Sparring is part of the Junior Competitive programme, but it is introduced gradually and only when a young boxer is technically ready. All sparring is controlled, supervised by a coach, and conducted with full protective equipment including headguard, gumshield, and gloves. We do not allow unsupervised sparring.

What equipment does my child need?

To get started, comfortable sportswear and trainers are enough. We have gloves and wraps to borrow while your child settles in. For regular training and especially for sparring, you will need your own gloves, wraps, gumshield, and headguard. The coach will advise on what to buy and when.

How does the ABA registration work?

Boxers who want to compete must be registered with the Amateur Boxing Alliance. This involves completing a medical form and paying a registration fee. Your coach will guide you through the process. You do not need to be ABA registered to train in the Junior Competitive class.
