Northumberland Heath has a working-class community feel and active families, but structured after-school programmes that genuinely develop children are limited. Honour and Glory in Kidbrooke runs age-specific boxing sessions for children, 13 minutes from Northumberland Heath by car.

This is a proper boxing programme, not an after-school fitness class with gloves.

Infants: Ages 5 to 9

The infants sessions introduce children to the fundamentals of boxing: how to stand, how to move, and the correct mechanics of basic punches. There is no contact at this level. Sessions are energetic, structured, and designed to hold the attention of younger children.

The physical benefits are real and cumulative: balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and the ability to focus and follow instructions in a physically demanding environment.

Juniors: Ages 10 to 16

Juniors work on more advanced technique. Combinations, defensive movement, pad work with a partner, and bag sessions are all part of the programme. For those who want to take it further, there is a pathway into amateur competition through England Alliance Boxing.

For those who simply want the training without competition, that is equally welcome. Not every junior needs to fight. Many of the best attributes developed through boxing training, discipline, physical conditioning, confidence, apply regardless of competitive intent.

Coaching Standards

All coaches are DBS checked. The club is ABA affiliated, which means coaching qualifications and safeguarding standards meet a formal benchmark rather than internal policy alone.

Children taught boxing correctly from an early age carry that technical foundation through the rest of their sporting life. The habits formed in junior sessions matter.
