Easter 2026: What You Need to Know

Easter Sunday falls on 5 April 2026. Most schools in the Royal Borough of Greenwich break up on Friday 27 March and return on Monday 14 April, giving you just over two weeks to fill.

Two weeks with children at home and no plan is how parents end up exhausted and children end up bored. Having even three or four structured activities across the fortnight changes the holiday completely. Here is what is worth knowing about.

Greenwich

Old Royal Naval College. The Easter trail runs throughout the holidays. Children explore the grounds and visitor centre, following clues for a chocolate prize. The Victorian Skittle Alley is open for bunny skittles, and there are Easter basket weaving workshops suitable for ages 7 and up. On Easter Monday, the Blackheath Morris dancers perform outside the Visitor Centre. Free admission.

Cutty Sark. The Easter adventure includes an egg trail aboard the ship, a secret nautical code to unscramble, and workshops throughout the holiday period. The combination of a real historic vessel and Easter activities works better than it sounds, particularly for children who are old enough to appreciate the ship itself. Ticketed.

National Maritime Museum. Free family workshops run throughout the holidays. The museum is enormous and genuinely good for all ages. The space and ocean galleries hold children's attention well.

Greenwich Market. Free kids workshops over the Easter weekend, with materials provided for Easter-themed crafts. Free face painting. The market itself is worth a visit even without the Easter activities.

Woolwich

Woolwich Works. The arts and events venue runs Crafternoon sessions during school holidays, with spring-themed crafts accessible for most ages. Past Holiday Fun Fridays have included free arts, crafts, food stalls, face painting, and bouncy castles.

Alpha Chains Easter at Christ Church Primary. A holiday club for ages 4-12 running 30 March to 2 April, with sports, games, and arts and crafts. Themed weeks may include park trips and museum visits. This is full-day care, not just a one-off activity, which matters if you are working.

Eltham

Eltham Palace and Gardens. The Easter Adventure Quest runs daily from 28 March to 19 April. Children follow a trail, hunt for eggs, and answer questions for a chocolate reward. £2 per child on top of admission. The palace grounds include a playground and the art deco interiors are genuinely interesting for adults while children are occupied with the trail.

Ultimate Activity Camps at Eltham College. Day camp for ages 4-14, running 30 March to 10 April. Over 40 activities including sports, arts, and crafts. Multi-day booking option for working parents.

Kidbrooke and Blackheath

Blackheath Common. Not an organised event, but two weeks of Easter holiday means you need free outdoor space. Blackheath is flat, open, and big enough for children to run without concern. Kite flying works well there in spring.

Sutcliffe Park. The nature reserve and open space in Kidbrooke is less well known than Blackheath but excellent for younger children. The paths are accessible and the water features are interesting.

Junior boxing training at Honour and Glory

Boxing as a Holiday Activity

Here is the part where we mention ourselves, because boxing during the Easter holiday is genuinely worth considering for children aged 7-16.

The Junior Recreational class at Honour and Glory starts from age 7 and runs across the week. No experience required. Coordination, movement, basic boxing technique, and boxing games all sit inside the programme. £8.50 per session.

The Junior Recreational class runs multiple evenings for ages 10-16. Proper technique, bag work, pad work, and for those further along, supervised controlled sparring. £8.50 per session.

Book the initial trial first. After that, pay per session and leave if it is not right.

The difference between boxing and most Easter holiday activities: boxing sessions run throughout the year, not just during holidays. A child who tries boxing at Easter and enjoys it has a structured activity available to them every week going forward, not just during school breaks.

The Honest Guide to Planning

You do not need to fill every day. The mistake parents make is booking something for every morning and afternoon, arriving at the end of the holiday more exhausted than the beginning.

Three or four structured activities across the fortnight, supplemented by outdoor time and some deliberate do-nothing days, produces better outcomes than a packed schedule. Children need unstructured time too.

The activities listed here range from free (Blackheath, Greenwich Market crafts, NMM) to moderate cost (Eltham Palace trail, boxing sessions) to full-day care (activity camps). Mix according to your budget and energy.
