Boxing for 5 Year Olds Near Orpington (2026)
Finding boxing for very young children is harder than it should be. Most clubs in the Orpington area start their youngest classes at 8 or 10. If your child is 5, 6, or 7 and interested in boxing, the options locally are essentially non-existent.
Honour and Glory Boxing Club runs dedicated infants boxing sessions for children aged 5 to 9. Tuesday and Thursday, 5pm to 6pm. Coached by BBBofC licensed instructors who are experienced in working with young children.
What Infants Boxing Actually Involves
This is not miniature adult boxing. There is no sparring, no contact, and no ring work. The sessions are built around coordination, balance, listening, and basic boxing movements.
- Warm-up games and movement exercises
- Basic footwork and stance drills
- Pad work with a coach (not with other children)
- Fun conditioning activities
- Cool-down and stretching
The emphasis is on developing motor skills, building confidence, and learning to follow instructions in a structured environment. If your child can throw a ball and listen to a teacher, they are ready.
Why Boxing at 5?

The question parents usually ask is whether 5 is too young. It is not. At this age, children are developing coordination, spatial awareness, and body control. Boxing drills are excellent for all three.
The discipline element matters too. Learning to stand correctly, to wait your turn, to try again when something is difficult. These are life skills wrapped in a sport that children find genuinely exciting.
Several of our infants have continued into the junior programme at 10 and gone on to compete. Others train for a few years, build confidence, and move on to other sports with better coordination and self-discipline than they would have had otherwise.
