Boxing for Teenagers in Kidbrooke

The teenage years are when boxing either takes hold or passes by. At 14 or 15, a young person who has been training for two or three years already has the foundations that take adults twice as long to build. The window matters.

Honour and Glory Boxing Club at 122 Broad Walk runs junior sessions for teenagers aged 10 to 16, Monday to Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. For Kidbrooke teenagers, this is not a club they need to travel to - it is the neighbourhood gym.

What Teenagers Get From Boxing

Youth awards ceremony at H&G Boxing

Boxing requires you to be genuinely present. You cannot scroll your phone during pad work. You cannot drift off during footwork drills. The sport demands total attention, and this focus tends to carry over into the rest of a teenager's day.

Teenagers at H&G consistently report improvements in concentration and stress management. This is not surprising - regular intense physical exercise with a skill component is one of the most effective interventions for adolescent wellbeing that exists. The research on this is clear, even if the conversation around it is often reduced to vague claims about building character.

Recreational vs Amateur Pathways

H&G offers both:

Recreational juniors - For teenagers who want to learn boxing, get fit, and enjoy the sport without competing. Sessions cost ยฃ8.50 and are open to all skill levels. No pressure to fight.

Amateur boxing - For those who want to progress towards ABA competition. This pathway requires commitment and involves technical development, sparring, and eventually competing at club, regional, or national level.

Most teenagers start recreational and make a decision about the competitive pathway after six to twelve months. Neither route is inferior - they serve different goals.

The Club Environment

H&G is a community-focused club that prioritises the community it serves. The junior programme has a genuine mix of teenagers from across SE3 - some from Kidbrooke Village, some from around Sutcliffe Park and Cator Park.

The coaches are ABA affiliated and BBBofC licensed. That means they have been assessed by the national bodies that govern the sport. Young people are being coached by people who actually know what they are doing.
