Sunday Boxing Classes Near Woolwich

By H&G Team 2 min read 9 min drive from Woolwich

Most boxing clubs run tightly scheduled classes. You sign up for a Tuesday slot and that is your Tuesday slot. If you miss it, you miss it.

Honour and Glory does things differently on Sundays.

Sunday Open Sessions

Every Sunday, the gym at 122 Broad Walk is open from 8:30am to 2:30pm. That is six hours of open gym time. You come when it suits you, stay as long as you need, and train at your own pace.

For anyone working shifts, juggling family life, or simply not knowing what their week will look like, this format is far more realistic than a fixed weekly class.

Who Sunday Sessions Are For

These sessions work for beginners who want to get comfortable in a gym without the pressure of a structured class. They also work for more experienced members who want additional bag work or sparring practice on top of their weekday sessions.

The open sessions are supervised, not unsupervised. Coaches are present. If you have a question or need technique corrections, you get them.

Getting to the Gym from Woolwich on a Sunday

The 178 bus from Woolwich town centre stops on Broad Walk, right outside the gym. On Sundays the service runs reliably and the journey takes around 25 minutes.

Alternatively, Woolwich Arsenal is two stops from Kidbrooke on Southeastern rail - though do check the Sunday timetable before you travel, as frequencies vary. From Kidbrooke station the walk is 8 minutes.

If you are driving from Woolwich, take the A206 west then south on the A2, exit at Kidbrooke interchange. Free parking is available at the venue.

A Sunday Morning Worth Having

There is something to be said for getting your training done early on a Sunday. By the time most people are thinking about brunch, you have already put in a solid hour. The gym is quieter in the early part of the session, which suits people who want to focus.

The club holds a 4.9 rating on Google across 40-plus reviews. A lot of those reviewers mention the atmosphere - particularly the fact that the coaches actually pay attention to what you are doing.

Head coach Anton Pattenden founded the club in 2020 as a community-focused boxing club. The pricing reflects that: £10 per session for recreational adults, no contract, no joining fee. Turn up when you want to.

Members from Plumstead and Greenwich both make use of Sunday sessions regularly. The cross-borough travel is a non-issue once you have done it once.

Come and See for Yourself

The first session is always free. Sunday is an excellent day to try it - no pressure, no fixed schedule, just boxing.

Book your free trial and come on a Sunday morning. You will not regret the early start.
