Boxing Near Woolwich Arsenal Station

By H&G Team 2 min read 9 min drive from Woolwich

Woolwich Arsenal station puts you two stops from one of the best boxing clubs in southeast London. Kidbrooke station is on the same Southeastern line, and from there it is an 8-minute walk to 122 Broad Walk.

That is not a long commute. Most people in Woolwich spend longer waiting for a bus.

Getting Here from Woolwich Arsenal Station

Board a Southeastern train heading towards Hither Green or London Bridge. Get off at Kidbrooke - it is the second stop. The walk from Kidbrooke station to the gym is straightforward: follow the signs for Kidbrooke Village and you will see Broad Walk on your left.

Total travel time from Woolwich Arsenal station: roughly 20 minutes door to door.

The Bus Option

The 178 bus runs from Woolwich town centre and stops directly on Broad Walk, right outside the gym. Journey time is around 25 minutes. If you are coming from the market end of Woolwich or near the Royal Arsenal Riverside development, the bus may actually be more convenient than the train.

The 161 also serves the route. Check TfL for live departures before you leave.

Coming by Car

From Woolwich, head west along the A206 Woolwich Road, then pick up the A2 southbound. Exit at the Kidbrooke interchange. The gym is at 122 Broad Walk - free parking on site, which is more than most boxing gyms in this part of London can offer.

Why Make the Trip

Woolwich has a long history with boxing. The Royal Artillery Barracks produced fighters for generations - the military and the sport have always been intertwined here. That culture does not disappear overnight.

What Woolwich does not have right now is a club of this standard within the borough. Honour and Glory is a BBBofC licensed, ABA affiliated club run by head coach Anton Pattenden. The 4.9 Google rating across 40-plus reviews tells you what members think.

Sessions run Monday to Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, and Sunday open sessions from 8:30am to 2:30pm. Whether you are after recreational adult boxing or serious amateur training, there is a slot that fits.

Pricing is straightforward: £10 per session for recreational adults, £5 for amateur sessions. No joining fee, no contract.

Residents near Plumstead and Charlton use the same route and say the same thing: once you know how easy the journey is, it stops feeling like a separate borough.
