Boxing for Women Near Woolwich

By H&G Team 2 min read 9 min drive from Woolwich

The stereotype of boxing as a male-dominated sport is out of date. Women have been competing at Olympic level since London 2012. At club level, the picture has been slower to change - but at Honour and Glory, women train alongside men and in dedicated sessions, and nobody treats it as unusual.

That is how it should be.

The Women's Boxing Programme

The women's boxing programme at Honour and Glory is run by BBBofC licensed coaches. Sessions are technique-focused: stance, footwork, combinations, pad work, and bag work. The coaching is the same quality you get in any other class at the club.

This matters because a lot of "women's fitness boxing" is not really boxing. It is a cardio class with gloves on. There is a place for that, but if you want to actually learn the sport - how to throw properly, how to move your feet, how to read an opponent - you need real boxing coaching.

Honour and Glory provides that.

Woolwich Women Who Already Train Here

Women training at Honour and Glory Boxing Club

Woolwich SE18 has a strong community feel, and that extends to how people find the club. Word travels. Women from the Royal Arsenal Riverside development, from Woolwich Market area, and from Thamesmead all make the trip regularly.

The journey is not difficult. The 178 bus from Woolwich town centre stops on Broad Walk, right outside the gym. Allow 25 minutes. Woolwich Arsenal station is two stops from Kidbrooke on Southeastern - about 15 minutes total including the 8-minute walk from Kidbrooke station.

Free parking at the venue if you are driving. Take the A206 west from Woolwich, then the A2 south to the Kidbrooke interchange.

What to Expect in Your First Session

Come in, get wrapped up, and start moving. Nobody is watching to see how fit you are or how much you already know. The first session is about getting comfortable in the gym, learning the basic stance, and hitting pads for the first time.

Most women describe it the same way afterwards: more approachable than expected, more physically demanding than expected, and more enjoyable than expected.

The cost is £10 per session for recreational adults. No joining fee, no contract. Try it once and see.

Members from Greenwich and Plumstead have been joining the women's sessions for the same reason: good coaching, reasonable pricing, and a gym where the culture is right.

One More Thing

Boxing builds confidence. Not in a soft, motivational-poster way - in the direct sense that learning to defend yourself and hit something properly changes how you carry yourself. That is not a small thing.

If you have been thinking about it, stop thinking and start training.
