Boxing Classes for Beginners Near Lee
If you live near Manor House Gardens or Lee Green and have been thinking about trying boxing, the barrier is lower than you probably think. Honour and Glory Boxing Club is a train ride from Lee station to Kidbrooke, and it runs classes structured for people who have never trained before.
The gym is at 122 Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, SE3 8ND. Recreational adult sessions run Monday to Friday, 7:30pm to 9pm, at ยฃ10 per session.
Starting From Zero
The most common question from beginners is some version of: will my lack of experience be a problem? The answer is no. The sessions are designed around teaching the basics from the ground up.
Your first session will cover hand wrapping, stance, guard, basic movement, and a small number of combinations. You will not be thrown into pad work on day one without preparation. The coaches build on each session so that by the time you are doing proper rounds you have a foundation.
The Learning Curve
Boxing has a steep early learning curve and a long plateau of improvement after that. In the first eight to ten sessions, most people go from feeling completely lost to having a grasp of the basic combinations and footwork patterns.

What the Quaggy River walk will not give you, and boxing will, is the experience of concentration under physical pressure. That is the part most beginners do not expect to enjoy and then find themselves thinking about all week.
What to Bring
Water bottle. Comfortable clothes. Hand wraps if you have them; the gym has loaners if you do not. Gloves are also available to borrow in the first few sessions.
Qualified Coaches
This matters more for beginners than for anyone else. ABA-qualified coaches with BBBofC licences means the technique they teach is correct. You will not spend six months learning bad habits that then need to be unlearned. The foundation you build in the first few months will still be your foundation years later.
Getting There
Lee station to Kidbrooke is a short Southeastern hop. From Kidbrooke station it is around 10 minutes walk to the gym. The 178 bus from Lee Green also reaches Kidbrooke in about 10 minutes. Free parking if you drive via Eltham Road.
