Boxing fitness classes in Greenwich

Rated 4.9★ on Google (40 reviews) - from £10/session per session

What to expect from a session

Forget what you have seen on Instagram. This is not shadow boxing in a dark room with nightclub lighting. This is a proper boxing gym with proper coaches teaching you how to box properly.

🥊

Warm-up and movement

Skipping, footwork drills, dynamic stretching. Gets the heart rate up and loosens you out. Boxing footwork alone is a workout - you will feel your calves after the first session.

🎯

Technique rounds

Your coach teaches combinations - jab, cross, hook, uppercut - and you drill them on pads or bags. This is where you actually learn to box. Proper stance, proper guard, proper rotation through the hips.

💪

Bag work and circuits

Three-minute rounds on the heavy bags, alternating with bodyweight exercises. Press-ups, sit-ups, burpees, squat jumps. This is the part that empties the tank. Work at your own pace - nobody is watching the clock except you.

🧊

Cool-down and stretch

Guided stretch to bring the heart rate down. Your coaches will check in, answer questions and make sure you are not dying. Most people are buzzing by this point.

Who is fitness boxing for?

People who want to get fit

Bored of the treadmill? Boxing is the most engaging workout you will ever do. Your brain is so focused on technique that you forget you are exercising. An hour disappears.

People who want to learn a skill

Unlike most fitness classes, you actually learn something here. After a few months, you will know how to throw a proper combination, move around an opponent and defend yourself. That stays with you.

People leaving chain gyms

If you have been to a boxercise class at PureGym, David Lloyd or Virgin Active and thought "this is fun but I want the real thing," this is where you come next.

People who are nervous

Half the gym felt the same way before their first session. Boxing gyms have a reputation for being intimidating. Ours is not. We are a community club, not a fight factory. First session is free - come and see for yourself.

Common questions

What is fitness boxing? +
Fitness boxing uses real boxing training methods - pad work, bag work, skipping, circuits - without any contact or sparring. You learn proper technique while getting an intense full-body workout. It is sometimes called boxercise, boxfit or crossbox.
Is this the same as boxercise? +
Similar idea, better execution. Boxercise classes at chain gyms tend to be generic cardio with boxing-themed moves. Our sessions are run by qualified boxing coaches in a real boxing gym. You will learn actual technique - how to throw a proper jab, how to move your feet, how to slip a punch - while still getting a serious workout.
Do I need any experience? +
None at all. Most people who walk through our doors have never thrown a punch before. Our coaches will teach you everything from scratch, and everyone works at their own pace.
Will I get hit? +
No. Our recreational classes are entirely non-contact. You will hit pads held by a coach or partner, work the heavy bags, and do boxing drills. Nobody is going to punch you.
What should I bring? +
Comfortable gym clothes and trainers. We provide gloves and wraps for your first session. If you stick with it, we recommend getting your own wraps (around £5) and eventually your own gloves.
How fit do I need to be? +
Any level. Sessions are structured so you can push yourself as hard as you want. Complete beginners train alongside regulars - the coaches adjust the intensity to suit you.
What is the difference between crossbox and boxing? +
Crossbox typically combines boxing techniques with cross-training exercises like burpees, kettlebells and bodyweight circuits. Our recreational boxing classes cover similar ground but with more emphasis on proper boxing technique. You get the fitness benefits of crossbox with the added skill development of real boxing coaching.
How many calories does a boxing workout burn? +
A typical boxing session burns between 500 and 800 calories per hour, depending on intensity. Boxing is one of the highest calorie-burning exercises because it engages your entire body - legs, core, shoulders, arms - and alternates between high-intensity bursts and active recovery.
