What is GB Boxing?

GB Boxing is the organisation responsible for the Olympic boxing programme in Great Britain. Based at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, it manages the World Class Performance Programme - the pathway that takes the country's most talented amateur boxers from national level to the Olympic Games.

The programme operates at two tiers: the Podium squad (senior international athletes training full-time) and the Podium Potential squad (developing boxers identified as future Olympic contenders). GB Boxing has been instrumental in the sport's recent Olympic success, with British boxers winning medals at every Games from Beijing 2008 onwards.

The connection to grassroots clubs

Every Olympic boxer started somewhere. The talent identification process begins at club level - scouts attend regional and national championships looking for boxers with the potential to progress. Clubs that are properly affiliated and running structured competitive programmes are where that talent is found.

GB Boxing works with the home nation governing bodies (England Boxing, Boxing Scotland, Welsh Boxing) and regional associations to maintain the competitive pipeline. Being part of this network means Honour & Glory's competitive boxers are visible within the system that leads to national squad selection.

Realistic ambitions

Not every boxer who walks through our door will end up at the Olympics - obviously. But the point of having a clear pathway is that those who do have the talent and dedication can see exactly how to get there. The club show leads to regionals, regionals lead to nationals, nationals lead to GB Boxing selection. Each step is defined and achievable.

For most of our members, the value is simpler: you are training at a club that takes boxing seriously enough to be connected at every level of the sport. The coaching methods, the technical standards, the competitive structure - all of it is shaped by what works at the highest level, delivered in a way that is accessible to everyone from beginners to elite competitors.
