What is England Boxing?

England Boxing is the national governing body for amateur boxing in England, responsible for overseeing the sport from grassroots clubs right through to international competition. Founded as the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) and rebranded in 2013, it sets the standards that every legitimate boxing club in the country is measured against.

The organisation manages everything from coaching qualifications and safeguarding requirements to competition rules and the competitive pathway that leads boxers from local shows to national championships and beyond.

What does affiliation mean for our members?

Being an England Boxing affiliated club means Honour & Glory meets strict standards across several areas:

• Qualified coaches - all coaches hold England Boxing coaching qualifications and undergo regular CPD
• Safeguarding - enhanced DBS checks for all coaching staff, with designated safeguarding officers and clear reporting procedures
• Insurance - full public liability and participant insurance through England Boxing's approved scheme
• Competition access - members can register for official England Boxing competitions, from club shows to national championships
• Medical standards - all competitive boxers receive proper medical checks and records are maintained centrally

The competitive pathway

England Boxing runs a structured competitive pathway. Boxers start at club shows, progress through regional championships, and can compete at national level. The best go on to represent England at international tournaments. Several of our own boxers have competed internationally, including events in Spain, Sweden, and Mexico.

For younger boxers, there are age-appropriate competition formats with additional safety measures. Junior competitions use stricter weight matching and shorter round times, with headguards mandatory at all levels.

Why it matters

Not every gym that offers boxing is affiliated with a governing body. Affiliation means accountability - there are standards to uphold, inspections to pass, and qualifications to maintain. When you train at an England Boxing club, you know the coaching is legitimate, the environment is properly insured, and the safeguarding is taken seriously.
