About Aberfeldy ABC
Aberfeldy Boxing Club is a Community Interest Company based at 29 Aberfeldy Street in Poplar, East London. With over 13,000 Instagram followers, they punch well above their weight in terms of community visibility. Their hashtag #stopthestabbingsticktojabbing says everything about their ethos: boxing as an alternative to street violence for young people in Tower Hamlets.
The club received early funding from Aberfeldy Big Local (a resident-led group) and ongoing support from Poplar HARCA and Meanwhile Space. They are fully affiliated with England Boxing, and England Boxing has regularly featured them on their social channels. Alongside regular training, Aberfeldy runs open gym sessions at weekends and evenings for the broader community.
They run children's boxing classes for primary school-aged children (typically 4-5pm sessions), making them one of the clubs that genuinely reaches young people early. It's become a real community hub in Poplar, and their "Stop the Stabbing, Stick to Jabbing" anti-knife crime campaign has earned them recognition well beyond the boxing world.

Location and Access
Aberfeldy is in Poplar, E14 - about 35 minutes from SE3 by car, but significantly longer by public transport due to the Thames crossing. Getting there from Kidbrooke, Blackheath, or Eltham involves either the Blackwall Tunnel or the Rotherhithe Tunnel - neither quick in rush-hour traffic.
For regular evening training, this makes Aberfeldy impractical for Greenwich-area residents. Honour & Glory in Kidbrooke is right there for Greenwich, Eltham, and Blackheath residents - no river crossing required.
The Verdict
Aberfeldy is doing excellent work in Poplar with strong community values and a vibrant, purpose-driven club culture. For anyone in Tower Hamlets or the Isle of Dogs area, it's very much worth exploring.
For South East Londoners, the distance and Thames crossing make regular training impractical. Honour & Glory offers pay-as-you-go pricing from £5, classes from age 5, dedicated women's sessions, and a convenient SE London location with no tunnel traffic to contend with.
